FSA Writing Component ELA Writing Component (One 90-minute session) Students will be asked to read one or more texts about similar topics. The text (s) will be no more than 800-1300 words combined. They will respond to the text based on a prompt. The prompt should be in an essay format and MUST use text evidence to support their response.

The articles were either too long, too hard, or too boring. Or they didn’t have enough evidence for students to use to construct an FSA-style essay. Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I ended up creating my own: They are available in my TPT store. They include three passages and a prompt, all in the same format as the FSA. So far.

Using Rubrics to Support FSA Writing Practice. As part of the FSA ELA assessments, students from grades 4 to 10 must complete writing tests. These assessments include a couple of pieces of text that are related by a theme. A writing prompt then requests students to write an informative or persuasive essay linked to the theme.

Informative essay is a written as literary essay piece with the purpose of educating a target audience or readers regarding a certain topic or subject. It is intended to present or expose something while at the same time avoiding to present arguments or personal opinion from the writer.
